GENERAL NEWSTHE ADVENTURES OF R.SOLE

So here it is... Merry Christmas!
Well, here at Boxblue Studios we’ve somehow clocked up our busiest year yet, and that’s saying something. We’ve had our Steam page live and quietly (okay, not that quietly) hoovering up wishlists, rolled out a shiny upgraded website, promptly lost said website to the digital void, and then rebuilt it again with a bit more wisdom and a lot more coffee. Character-building, that.
On the games front, we expanded The Adventures of R.Sole, tightening puzzles, polishing visuals, and arguing with code until it finally behaved. We also kicked off work on Icarus Noir: Binary Blues, which involved equal parts world-building, noir-soaked writing, experimental mechanics, and staring at animation timelines wondering who, exactly, thought frame-by-frame polishing was a good idea (it was us... past us, specifically).
So, just to give you a sense of how much actually goes into making a Boxblue game this year, we’ve:
– written and rewritten dialogue until it sang
– coded systems that worked, broke, worked again, then broke in exciting new ways
– animated characters one tiny movement at a time
– balanced art, logic, pacing, and player experience
– held down full-time jobs
– spent time with families
– walked the dogs
– cooked the dinners
– answered emails at unreasonable hours
– fixed bugs that only appeared at 2am
– stared into the abyss of version control
– and, naturally, drank all the rum
(For creative reasons. Obviously.)
Behind every scene, puzzle, and animation is an absurd amount of unseen work, problem-solving, testing, reworking, and the slow, stubborn determination to make things feel right. It’s messy, time-consuming, occasionally maddening… and we wouldn’t trade it for anything.
As the year winds down and the festive lights flicker on, we just want to say a genuine thank you to everyone who’s followed along, wishlisted, shared our work, or simply taken the time to care about what we’re making. It means more than we can easily put into words.
So, from Ryan and Lee at Boxblue Studios, we wish you a very Merry Christmas, a Happy Holidays, and a warm, restful break, however you spend it. May your code compile, your puzzles click, your drinks be strong, and your New Year start with good things on the horizon.
